Lady's cabinet or secretary, also called "Bonheur du Jour", 19th century, Louis XVI, entirely marquetry.
19th century lady's writing cabinet or secrétaire, in the shape of a casket, with the flap door that reveals a writing surface and brings to light two small drawers and an internal shelf.
Four gilt bronze cabriole legs with sabots. The front of the secrétaire is set with elaborate marquetry and topped with a finely chiseled gilt bronze gallery and original marble top.
The bureau or sécretaire is an example of the importance of writing in 19th century France.
